New Year Murder Mystery, Brixham – 29th December 2012
The Weary Ploughman Inn near Brixham on Devon’s English Riviera is celebrating the New Year slightly early this year with an exciting Murder Mystery evening entitled ‘Murder at the Oscars’. It’s the perfect excuse to fill the gap between Christmas and New Year. Murder and suspense will be supplied by a local theatre company and whilst you work out the Murder Mystery clues and try to solve the case, you’ll be served a delicious three-course dinner. Following this, there will be a DJ and dancing. Don your finest frocks, sharpest suits or even dress as your favourite film star. Overnight accommodation can be booked in one of the luxurious bedrooms and you can relax with a drink in the delightful lounge bar before the fun begins.
New Year House Party, Babbacombe Beach – 30th December 2012
New Year at the de Savary’s award winning Cary Arms, “The Inn on the Beach” at Babbacombe on Devon’s English Riviera will be a very special occasion. A friendly house party for an intimate few in a magical coastal hideaway overlooking stunning Babbacombe Bay. Arriving on the 30th December for a 3-night luxury break, the New Year House Party package offers accommodation, breakfast, dinner and some drinks.
You can book the Captain’s Suite or a luxury double room within the main inn, or take over the fishermen’s cottages of Shell Cottage, Pebble Cottage, Beach Cottage and Rose Cottage for the whole period. Prices range from £1,300 for 2 sharing a double.
News Year’s Eve at The Elephant, Torquay – 31st December 2012
Fine dining at its very best! The Elephant is a Michelin starred restaurant overlooking beautiful Torquay Harbour. Celebrity chef Simon Hulstone has won multiple awards for his creative cuisine, and has regularly represented Great Britain in prestigious competitions. The Elephant has been listed in the UK’s top 100 restaurants as voted by Restaurant magazine, for the past three years. A stunning 7-course menu is on offer for New Year’s Eve with a champagne cocktail on arrival. Price: £89.50 per person (plus a discretionary 10% service charge).
New Year’s Eve Dinner at the Toorak, Torquay – 31st December 2012
This popular hotel close to Torquay seafront will be celebrating in style on New Year’s Eve with welcome drinks, gala dinner and a traditional Scottish Piper, followed by evening entertainment and dancing with KB Sounds (until 1.00am) and a glass of bubbly at midnight. Tickets are £55 per person. Early booking recommended.
Dartmouth Vintage Boat and Bus Voyage – Operating New Year’s Eve 2012
The English Riviera is a fantastic all year round destination. This year and for the first time we will be operating the wonderful, magical 1940s Vintage Bus from Torquay, Paignton and Brixham to Dartmouth with connection by heated cruise boat. The trip will take you on a sightseeing vintage bus tour with commentary to Greenway Quay on the edge of the River Dart, where you will board a river vessel to connect you with the nautical riverside town of Dartmouth – landing you there with time to look around before returning in the afternoon to your original embarkation point. Winter Steam Train Coastal Spectacular – Operating New Year’s Eve 2012
For the first time ever – and by popular demand – Dartmouth Steam Railway are going to open to the public during the New Year break this year. Dartmouth Steam Railway will be running trains everyday between 27th and 31st December and a special timetable will be in operation. The scenery is breathtaking, along the spectacular English Riviera Geopark coastline, to the picturesque station at Churston, then on through the wooded slopes of Long Wood bordering the Dart Estuary to Kingswear. From Dolphins to Seals, Kingfishers to Buzzards, Herons and Egrets, the wildlife is superb. With such a varied range of scenery and wildlife, this is one of the finest heritage steam railway journeys anywhere in Europe.
Kents Cavern – Open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
Kents Cavern is one of Europe’s top prehistoric Stone Age caves with an extensive labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caverns open daily all year. It’s the official underground visitor centre for UNESCO’s English Riviera Global Geopark. The caves are warm and dry all year round and make a great place to visit when it’s cold outside! The last tour is at 3.30pm.

OurGlass – Glassblowing, Torquay – Open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
This is another great way to keep warm and watch makers at work in this fascinating glassblowing studio at the renowned Cockington Court Craft Centre. OurGlass makes beautifully crafted pieces using traditional methods. You can watch the work being created up-close…have an opportunity to ask questions and learn all about the 2000 year-old “Roman” techniques. The workshop is open every day, all year round and is free admission. Winter opening 10am – 3pm (minimum). Located in beautiful Cockington Village close to Torquay.
