|The English Riviera Tourism Company (ERTC) and English Riviera Attractions (ERA) have invested in a large stand at this year’s Devon County Show (21- 23May) in a major promotion designed to attract a raft of new day visitors to the resort. The joint initiative is designed to appeal to the 95,000 visitorsfrom around the region who visit the Devon County Show each year. It will highlight the resort’s attractions to day visitors from Exeter and East Devon, particularly once the South Devon Link Road is opened, substantially improving ease of access. The English Riviera, as a resort, could gain substantially from increased day visitor traffic and the opportunity to increase awareness and drive new visitors as a result of the show is huge.
The English Riviera stand will be in a prime position on the main thoroughfare at the show (Avenue K – Stand 347) and consists of a 6-metre x 6-metre marquee with the highest quality, professional displays. The stand will be continually manned with fully trained tourism advisers and there will be a large selection of printed tourist information for visitors to take home. This will include the new Attractions Passport, plus a brand new English Riviera Map & Mini Guide.
A daily programme of fun activities for visitors to enjoy including bug eating, crown making, Stone Age tool making and a lucky dip prize draw will be on offer. There will also be a large photo peep board, complete with dressing up box so visitors can dress up in seaside paraphernalia (snorkels, sunhats and such like) and then upload their photos onto Twitter with the resort hashtags #EnglishRiviera and #lifetimeofmemories.
There will be a mascot race between the ERA and DATA on Saturday 23rd May. It will be taking place between 12.45pm – 1.15pm at the Mole Valley Farmers arena.
Carolyn Custerson, Chief Executive of the English Riviera Tourism Company said, “This major promotion at the Devon County Show will capitalise on the day visitor market, driving new business directly to the English Riviera and is timed to coincide with improved access to our resort. Working together with ERA members has enabled us to create maximum visibility for the English Riviera at this prestigious annual show and has the potential to drive significant new business from the Exeter and East Devon area and further afield.”
Richard Cuming, Chair of English Riviera Attractions said, “I am pleased that the 16 ERA members working closely in partnership with the ERTC have invested in a stand at this years Devon County Show. We will be highlighting the destination’s great range of quality and diverse attractions with a specially designed stand. Members will be showcasing what their individual businesses have to offer with their own events throughout the show. This is an excellent example of what can be achieved working as a group and with the ERTC promoting the Bay in a new target market.“
The tourism displays specially created by the two organisations for the Devon County Show can be used to good effect at other regional shows, thereby adding even more value to this investment.
